CLASSICAL MUSIC APPREC

St. Thomas Aquinas Academy
Course Registration No. FA -620

COURSE OVERVIEW

Memoria Press' worktext Music Appreciation I with its easy-to-use companion CD.  This is a beginner's introduction to classical music's formal historical periods and the formal vocabulary for its concepts (C scale, tempo, arpeggio, melody, pitches, motif…).  Each of its 26 chapters includes "A Little History," "Musical Concept," "About the Piece," "Facts to Remember," and listening notes per assigned selection/s.
Each family needs one worktext.  The only writing assigned in the worktext is in the seven Review Tests in the back of the book, but reproduction rights are not given, note.
Do this one to three days weekly, depending on time spent in listening and discussion.  Consider listening to the selection/s in Day 1, doing the discussion and note-taking in Day 2, and the "Listen Again" exercises in Day 3.  Day 1 will be a brief 15-minute introductory lesson, Day 2 and 3 will take about 30 minutes each.  The STAA course plan includes developing a notebook for each lesson (Day 2 activity), and a week for review and testing for each of the seven Review Tests.
