SCIENCE LITERACY I (SL1-B)
COURSE OVERVIEW
Science Literacy I, using Developing Critical Thinking through Science/Book 2 and Kingfisher Science Encyclopedia. A weekly course plan, broken into a five-day work week, is found in our STAA Study Guide: Science Literacy I (SL1-B). For enrolled STAA students, brief online weekly quizzes are available.
Developing Critical Thinking through Science/Book 2 teaches classical physics (how do things work, and what is "work"?), classically! It features Socratic teaching and learning, scientific method, scientific method vocabulary, science writing, and critical thinking--an education for the student and the parents! The key goals for this
material are (1) for the student to easily and thoroughly understand the "Goals" section of each lesson (a one to three line summary of the concept to be learned, given in the opening of each lesson), (2) for the student to master the meaning and use of scientific method vocabulary (given in the opening of each lesson, defined in the glossary, and used in the program cumulatively), and (3) for the student to
learn to speak and write about science effectively, efficiently, and comfortably.
