Single-subject study guide • B Track • 2026-27 Edition

Course codes: AH1-B (Art Appreciation I) and AH2-B (Art Appreciation II)

Art Appreciation I and II is a year of Catholic fine arts, blending art appreciation, art history, and weekly hands-on art practice. Using Bethany Pedersen’s Ever Ancient, Ever New and its companion ART Pad, students journey from the cave paintings of the ancient world through the High Renaissance, learning to see the beauty in great works and to create art of their own each week, all while cultivating a sensitivity to the way God speaks through art. Semester 1 moves from the ancient world through the early medieval period; Semester 2 continues to the High Renaissance and closes with Michelangelo.

This single-subject booklet gathers both eighteen-week semesters into one coil-bound volume, with weekly lesson plans, assignment and Binder Check instructions, Reflection Topics for discussion with the teaching-parent, and a gradebook for tracking quarter grades. It pairs with the online quizzes and review tests on the STAA Student Zone, and students in Grade 8 and above who use them should each have their own copy.

For younger students, Art Appreciation I and II is a full-year course in fine arts; high school students can complete it in a single semester for half credit. It is typically studied in the European Studies, B Track year (around Grade 8), alongside Old World history. Returning families may know it by its former title, Old World Art.
